We designed our project to focus on college access and education because of Malala Yousafzai's life story as told by the movie "He Named Me Malala," and because of the following, VERY powerful, video titled "Schools Not Prisons: #DoTheMath."
We are all 7th grade AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) students. AVID is a college preparation elective class. So, another reason behind our choice to focus on college access are the following AVID statistics collected from AVID seniors during the 2013-2014 school year. As you can see from the graphic, students all across the United States need help graduating from high school with meeting the necessary requirements to enter a four-year college. It is obvious from the chart below, AVID helps students, regardless of ethnicity, achieve that goal.
